Following the announcement of their partnership yesterday, Formula Virtual team Downton and car manufacturer McLaren have today confirmed a new joint venture, a team in the upcoming eVirtual series. eVirtual will start up in 2020 and already has ten teams and manufacturers announced, ranging from electric car experts in Tesla, to the relatively inexperienced in Lada, and supercar manufacturers Maserati and Porsche.
Downton and McLaren have now confirmed they will be the mysterious eleventh team; with the duo entering in a joint venture to be know as Downton McLaren eVirtual Team. Downton will be recorded as the manufacturer, while McLaren will supply the power train, to be dubbed the McLaren eV-Motor20. Unsurprisingly, the team will run with car number 13, but with complete freedom in the regulations regarding choice of car numbers, their second car will be adorned with the number 94. "We are really excited about this new venture," commented Bradley Downton, the founder and team principal of Downtons Formula Virtual team. "When we heard about eVirtual we were really excited, but with no prior experience in electric cars and technology, we knew it would be a step too far for us. However, then the deal with McLaren came and they were very keen on the idea. It picked up pace quite quickly and here we are!" When quizzed on a line up Downton added, "both ourselves and McLaren will make the choice on drivers, and we already have a shortlist, but we'll have to wait and see how everything pans out."
